Soot blowers
Our soot blower family is designed for demanding operating conditions, in plants with challenging fuels such as waste incineration plants and biomass power plants. Manufactured exclusively at our factory in Salzgitter.
- Up to approx. 1,000 °C
- Travel distance up to 14 m
- Steam or compressed air

The system
Developed from practice in soot blower service
The design of our soot blower family is based on more than 20 years of practical experience in soot blower service and optimization. Depending on the cleaning task and availability, steam or compressed air is used as the cleaning medium.
Our soot blowers are entirely Made in Germany and are manufactured exclusively at our factory in Salzgitter. This ensures the highest quality and the shortest delivery times.
Advantages of our soot blowers
- Robust, power plant-ready construction for demanding operating conditions.
- Modular design of the different soot blower types reduces the required spare parts inventory.
- Cast valve for long service life.
- Blast jet offset as standard to protect the heating surfaces.
- Integration into the higher-level plant control system.
- Control of the cleaning sequences.
Lance screw blower
Technical data and designs
The lance screw blowers are available in two product families, LSB 22 and XLSB.
- LSB 22
- Travel distance up to 8 m
- XLSB
- Travel distance up to 14 m
- Application
- Up to approx. 1,000 °C flue gas temperature
- Blow tube
- With the lance screw blowers, the blow tube travels completely out of the boiler.
- Designs
- Various designs and special versions to suit the cleaning task.
The soot blowers compared
| Model | Type | Application | Travel distance | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LSB 22 | Lance screw blower | up to approx. 1000 °C flue gas temperature | up to 8 m | Lance tube completely exits the boiler |
| XLSB | Lance screw blower | up to approx. 1000 °C flue gas temperature | up to 14 m | Lance tube completely exits the boiler |
| SB22 | Screw blower | up to approx. 450 °C, up to 700 °C for non-corrosive flue gases | up to 6 m | Shorter removal length, blow tube remains partially in the boiler |
| PB22 | Pendulum blower | up to approx. 1000 °C or 450 °C | up to 10 m or 6 m | Intensive cleaning through pendulum movement |
| TB22 | Traversing soot blower | up to approx. 500 °C | up to 6 m, pure axial movement | One to three traverses with high-performance nozzles |
| DB22 | Rotary soot blower | up to approx. 500 °C | no axial movement, 360° rotation | Minimal removal length, blow tube remains completely in the boiler |
The models in detail
Lance screw blower LSB 22
The lance screw blower is based on the principle that a lance tube with two opposing high-performance nozzles is moved spirally into the flue gas path. The lance tube completely exits the flue gas path again and is therefore suitable for temperatures up to 1,000 °C.
Screw blower SB22
The screw blower is best suited for areas with flue gas temperatures of up to 450 °C, or up to 700 °C for non-corrosive flue gases. The blow tube remains partially in the flue gas path and is supported there. This results in a shorter removal length with typically four high-performance nozzles. The SB22 is used for travel distances of up to 6 meters.
Pendulum blower PB22
The pendulum blower is designed for the first or last heating surface in a flue gas pass and cleans selectively in one direction. The blast jet of the high-performance nozzle oscillates over the heating surface during the axial movement. It is largely identical to the LSB 22 or SB22 and available in fully and partially retractable versions.
Traversing soot blower TB22
The traversing soot blower is designed for cleaning economizers and catalysts (SCR systems) at flue gas temperatures of up to approx. 500 °C. An axially movable traverse with special high-performance nozzles cleans the economizer or catalyst particularly effectively.
Rotary soot blower DB22
The rotary soot blower is designed for heating surfaces and heat exchangers with lighter contamination and flue gas temperatures of up to 500 °C. The blow tube remains completely in the flue gas pass, is fitted with nozzles along its entire length and rotates without axial movement.
Frequently asked questions about soot blowers
Where are soot blowers installed?
Soot blowers make sense between tube bundles. For empty passes, water lance blowers or spray cleaning are suitable.
Can soot blowers be used in outdoor plants?
Yes, with a suitable enclosure.
Are soot blowers available with sound insulation?
Yes, we offer sound insulation. Because of the heat build-up, however, it is complex.
Which media do soot blowers clean with?
Soot blowers clean with steam or compressed air. The appropriate cleaning medium is matched to the cleaning task and the utility supply available at the plant.
Which types of soot blowers does SZKS offer?
The range includes lance screw blowers, screw blowers, pendulum blowers, rake-type soot blowers, rotary soot blowers and wall blowers. The right type depends on the area of application and the boiler geometry.
Up to what flue gas temperatures can screw blowers be used?
Screw blowers can be used at flue gas temperatures of up to max. 550 °C. This figure refers to screw blowers and does not apply across the board to all soot blower types.
